Where to place ceiling speakers
13 February 2024
To get the best sound quality for your space, knowing where to place ceiling speakers is an important first step. Get it wrong, and the audio could get muddied or lost. Nail it, and you’ll be immersed in crystal clear sound.
Having been in the ceiling speaker market for almost two decades, we’ve helped thousands of retail and business customers realise their audio ambitions. From irregular living spaces to large-scale commercial projects, we’ve seen it, sorted it. And now we’ve got some knowledge to impart.
Place ceiling speakers at an equal distance apart
If you’re installing two or more speakers, aim to space them out at an equal distance from each other. At least 4 feet apart will ensure optimal sound dispersal. And by placing them at least 18 inches from an adjacent wall or ceiling, you’ll get clear audio without reverberations. If it helps, imagine installing LED downlights for maximum illumination. Just instead of light, you get awesome tunes instead.
Coverage is key
Full room coverage is a key consideration for anyone looking to buy a ceiling speaker. With our Wi-Fi multi-room ceiling speakers, up to 30 master speakers can be connected. That means there’s no excuses when it comes to getting a fully immersive audio experience. If you have an open plan kitchen/living area, and want your tunes or TV audio to follow you around, avoid the cold spots by making the most of the multi-speaker functionality. Not only is this perfect for hosting parties, it’s great for staying in the groove while you’re preparing food.
Avoid extra effort by using existing wiring
Another factor that may influence where you decide to place your ceiling speaker is proximity to existing wiring. One of the best ways to install ceiling speakers is by wiring them up to your lighting circuit. But don’t try doing it yourself! We’d advise anyone inexperienced with such matters to leave it in the capable hands of a qualified electrician. However, if you’re using a simple plug socket, then simply connect your speaker, and you’re set.
Once the installation part is complete, all you need to do is connect your speaker to any device you want to transmit audio from, either using Wi-Fi connectivity, or via Bluetooth, and you’re ready to begin experiencing high quality audio from above.
